My investment philosophy is careful and intelligent investing, offering my clients expertise and insight into investment opportunities that will assist them in achieving their unique financial goals.

My career as an Investment Advisor began in 1994 at CIBC Wood Gundy, where I quickly became a member of the elite President’s Council.

Prior to 1994, I was a successful small business owner and entrepreneur — my Casablanca Video stores are well-known and award-winning in Calgary. I was also very involved in advocating for small businesses and entrepreneur organizations and attracted media and public attention to key issues. The Progressive Group for Independent Business granted me a great honour and named their national annual award after me, The Jon Lord Award for Small Business Person of the Year.

In 1995, I was elected to public office and served two terms as an Alderman on Calgary City Council, and a further term as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta (MLA). I was very active in introducing a number of innovative ideas and initiatives that met with success. Working directly in Government provided me with an understanding of the many issues and problems that large organizations and corporations can face.

Today, my experiences in the worlds of politics and business afford me a rare advantage in screening for the best/the right investment opportunities for my clients. Having built my own business from the ground up—meeting payrolls, managing rapid growth, hiring and firing of employees — I have first-hand knowledge of what it takes to succeed in business and what pitfalls and problems a business can experience.

I am very pleased to be at Blackmont Capital and I look forward to continuing to provide my clients with careful and intelligent investing advice, quality service, and the type of uncommon perspectives that have been the hallmark of my career.
