- Why Your World Is About to Get a Whole Lot Smaller
— Jeff Rubin, Author, Former Chief Economist for CIBC World Markets
What do subprime mortgages, Atlantic salmon dinners, SUVs and globalization have in common? They all depend on cheap oil. And in a world of dwindling oil supplies and steadily mounting demand around the world, there is no such thing as cheap oil. Oil might be less expensive in the middle of a recession, but it will never be cheap again. Take away cheap oil, and the global economy is getting the shock of its life.
- Financial Sense: Ask The Experts — John Williams, the Executive Editor of Shadow Government Statistics, shares his observations of the current state of the US economy. This interview is about 44 minutes.
- Roundtable Energy Discussion — This is a link to a great discussion on the current and future condition of the global energy environment. Participating in this discussion are Jeff Rubin, Matthew Simmons, Robert Hirsch, and, as mediator, Jim Puplava.
Jeff Rubin is CIBC World Markets Chief Economist, and as such has been one of the leading Canadian experts warning about the impending global changes within the energy industry. Likewise, Matthew Simmons is the Chairman of Simmons & Company, and an expert on global energy production, and the author of Twilight in the Desert; a highly recommended analysis on Saudi oil production. Lastly, Robert Hirsch is the author of the Hirsch Report prepared in 2005 for the US Energy Department to study the impacts, mitigation, and risk management of peak oil and its consequences to the economy of United States.
As you can see, this roundtable gathers three of North America's leading experts on energy issues to discuss the future of global energy and its impact on the global economy. This is an issue that I perceive as the true storm that will impact the global economy, and one of my top investment themes. Please copy and paste the link in your explorer, or save it to your MP3 player to listen in. The discussion lasts about one hour.
