Keith Bekker — Investment Advisor
After studying Computational Science and Fine Arts at the University of Saskatchewan, then management training at the TD Bank where I worked as a Senior Administration Officer, I spent two years running my family’s grain farm in Southern Saskatchewan. It proved to be a robust introduction to entrepreneurship. I then moved to Calgary in 1979 in the middle of the oil boom to develop some land just outside of the city, and have never left.
A friend introduced me to the brokerage business and I began my investment career working for broker/dealers and later with Canarim Investments for Peter Brown, now CEO of Vancouver-based Canaccord Capital Corp., Canada's largest independent brokerage. I joined Blackmont’s predecessor firm, Yorkton Securities, in 1984 and have enjoyed the fact that for 23 years I have never changed my phone number or asked my clients to transfer their accounts.
Outside of the office, I am a proud co-founder, along with The Rotary Club of Calgary South, of the “Stay in School Program.” The “Stay in School Program” provides post secondary education grants to capable students from financially challenged families. The program has been active for seven years, with the first students entering university in September, 2007.
On a more personal note, I am married and have three sons. I enjoy traveling, skiing, cooking, drawing and engaging in creative processes.
